Dear AnandTech users

My desktop PC (Dell Studio M35T) was turned off one day and then next morning would not turn on it was still insured at PC world so I took there they said the "data" would wiped and they would charge £80 ($124) to back up the files. So i then decided to take out the hard drive and do it my self so i took out the hard drive used a usb 2.0 to sata connector and used EaseUS recovery to try and recover somes files but the files it recovered were corrupt and some even missing. So I then used other softwares such as getdataback and wondershare which all failed as some softwares found the files but they were corrupt and some could not find the files. I then used crystal disk on the hard drive and the health status was ok and then used HD tune and there were no corrupt sectors so i then tried with R studio data recovery which found some files but they where also corrupt. The hard drive shows up in computer management so I initialized the disk but then the data needs to be allocated so i tried to recover the parition using EaseUS and mini partion wizard both failed. I took some suggestions from on another forum were i posted there was some good answers (where i got crystal disk and r studio recommendations) and some people were baffled that a drive could get corrupted like that. I would really appreciate if some could help as this is stressing as I have a huge graphics pack i worked on for years and some photos and alot of college work.

I know i should have made a back up but i was planning to build a new PC in a few weeks and thought I ell back everything up at once.

The hard drive is 2x samsung 500gb hard drives that were in RAID 0

If the files are that important to you, yes.

It's bad enough that someone would run a drive without a backup. But a RAID-0? Oh my!

When the PC was bought quite a while back and was already configured in RAID 0 when it was bought turned off RAID few years ago then the PC had to be sent in for repair at PC world and the PC came back formatted in RAID 0. Shouldv backed up the data instead of waiting :-(

I sense that you are in the UK. If you are going the professional data recovery route, I recommend that you contact Sean at PCImage.co.uk. He is very reputable and trustworthy.

Ok thanks for your advice :) got a quote from a company charging £500 for the recovery which is way too much and was thinking just to let the data go if thats how much it costs. Thanks alot for your reply

Your right seems I had to learn the hard way :-( there wouldn't be all these issues. Think getting a NAS to back up data would help or would you rather recommend a external hard drive

Either. NAS has the advantage of being able to used by and for multiple PCs, and being always on, can make practical implementation of automated backups easier. OTOH, external HDDs are cheap, and do the job.

If you have multiple PCs you'd like to share data between, a NAS can have some added value, on top of being a place to store secondary copies of important stuff.

Am I getting this correct?, you are trying to recover data from a failed disk which was part of a Stripped array, and it is corrupted?
If so, ALL your data will be corrupted, as it is missing the other drive, and data from the rest of the file.
