How to recover a backup made on tape with NTBACKUP

Hi guys, I have a simple question:

NTbackup generates a "catalog" on restore & manage media about all the tape drives I backup up.

Let's say I get that server with the tape drive stole.

Can I just insert a tape & restore or it needs a "catalog file" that should be backed up outside the tape? Or can it be attached to the other backups?

How should I proceed?

Thanks!

Google NtBackup - there are a number of versions. The tape programs I used in the past had an option to rebuild the catalog by reading the backup tape you wish to catalog. (For tape sets with more than 1 tape, you have to load each tape in sequential order).

So if your computer is stolen, install the tape backup software (if applicable) and rebuild the catalog. Again, check around for specific info on NtBackup.
Good luck.
