How to reboot a laptop?

This may be really silly but on occassion my desktop just hangs and the only way I can reboot is buy pulling out the power and restarting. What do I do when this happens in the laptop? Do I pull out the battery or is there some way to reboot?

You should be able to hold the power button down for ~5 seconds.

This should work for your desktop as well.
