Hi
For a new build with m-atx motherboards and choosing between MSI B450M GAMING PLUS and ASRock B450M Pro4 (mainly those two).

It's a drawback for the MSI board that it only has two ram slots.

At least that is what I think. Because when I look up in the manual for the ASrock B450M Pro4 it has the below table for Ram. And in that table, only low speeds (<2400) are supported when using 4 Ram sticks.

- Does this in fact mean, that in practice you cannot use 4 ram modules in an ASRock B450 Pro4?

As it will go to 2400mhz.

I'm planning on buying minimum 3000mhz Ram, and a Ryzen 5 2600 processor. I do not plan to overclock specifically, but isn't it so, that the MB and processer by itself scale frequency up in "burst" when needed, so 3000 ram is a good choice over 2666 ram?

Or is 2666 ram with a Ryzen 5 2600 - not overclocked - just as fine, as speed will never exceed 2666?

From AS Rock B450M Pro4 manual page 22 - link

UDIMM Memory Slot Frequency
A1 A2 B1 B2 (Mhz)
- SR - - 2667
- DR - - 2667
- SR - SR 2667
- DR - DR 2400-2667
SR SR SR SR 2133-2400
SR/DR DR SR/DR DR 1866-2133

I've got a few rigs with Ryzen R5 1600 CPUs, and one of them has 4x8GB Team Vulcan DDR4-2400, the other has 4x8GB Team Vulcan DDR4-3000. Well, with all four RAM slots filled, I can only run either one at 2400 speeds. Sorry to say.

It's not so bad, really.

But if you want to run 32GB of RAM, "at speed", at like 3000 or 3200, then invest the money in a 2x16GB kit. Filling all four slots on AM4 CPUs, will definitely slow things down. Maybe someone with more mainstream RAM, like GSkill TridentZ, and B-die RAM, might have better luck.

PS. So now, we have not only "Like" and "Dislike" (among other) "reactions", now for these threads labeled "Question" as a Prefix, now we have "Up Vote" and "Down Vote"? Sigh. This place is getting ridiculous.
