How to quit an entry-level job?

Well I'm planning to quit my job that I've had for only about three months, for no reason other than want. It's just a simple fast food type thing, nothing extremely professional, and the workplace is not that formal, but I don't want to antagonize anyone. I just want to leave as smoothly as possible.

Do you think writing a resignation letter and handing it to them two weeks in advance is appropriate for this situation? It seems to be the norm for most, but is it too formal in this situation? I know that they are going to try to make me stay temporarily because I'm leaving in a time where they are needing more help and desperately hiring, but honestly, that's their problem and not mine. In my time there I havn't tried to be anything but the best employee I could possibly be, and I don't want to change that, but I also don't think I'm responsible for worrying about any of the manager's problems.

Simply put in your notice, and if they ask you to say tell them no.
No need to do anything else.

Fair enough, just keep it simple. No reasons why. No blame. Just state that you are quitting and you are offering them two weeks' notice.

I doubt written notice is necessary, it's not like your using this job to build a resume or anything and I'm sure people quit all the time.

what if you're a contractor, and no where in your contract does it state that you're required to give any sort of notice to quit (nor is the company required to give any notice to fire you)... can you just quit, or should you still give them 2 weeks just to be nice?

It's fast food. If you want to be nice, give them two weeks so you don't screw people into working a double shift next week, but if you really just hate it, stop showing up.

Unless you plan to put the place down as work experience, then you'd be smart to give two weeks.

I have quit about 12 jobs and I have never given written notice. Why? You are at-will. You can quit at anytime you want and apply for the same job anytime you want. You're not under contract

I think giving notice is done to be nice rather than a required thing.. All you have done is screwed other innocent employees into having to work shifts that they may not want to work because management didnt have enough notice to get your shift covered.

OP: Give your notice, give them two weeks. Its the right thing to do. If you want to give it in writing, even better, but not necessary IMO in this case.

My vote is to update your phone number in their books to a fake one, and just stop showing up.

That is the most hilarious one ;) At first they think you are sick, or something happened, or died... hilarious

And for the record, this isn't an entry-level position, it's a non-professional position.

Entry level is a job along chosen career path, but the sort of job you need within a company to prove yourself to them and the working world.

Unless you plan on fast-food management as a career.

I was trying to make fun of the fast food boy. You ruined it. :(

BTW what kind of schooling do you need for a Pharmacy job? Is it the same as being a doctor?

Two weeks notice if you think you can deal with it. I just handed a notice of resignation to this guy who was just a supervisor and not even my supervisor because my boss was out of the office, when I quit telemarketing. Cleaned out my little drawer, got the fvck out, and never looked back.

just let them know that you don't want to work there anymore, tell them two weeks max, and you're done....
