How to quiet a voodoo 5500

OK, wise guy --- what's wrong with the 5500? I know it's old and slow, but it's primarily used for cruising the Net. I was just wondering if one can get by using the Zalman chipset heat sinks ( and maybe a low flow fan such as the L1A's) to cool this "bad boy" down 🙂

The best way I know to quiet a Voodoo 5500 (and it also is the best thing that you can do with the card) is to pull it out of your current system and install it in the nearest round file. 😉

Short of that, the Zalman will most likely help out.

Viremia: very funny, although I set myself up for that . BTW, with what virus are you afflicted? HPV?

EdipisReks: thank you.

Very good guess. Actually, HPV doesn't have much of a viremic state (at least that we know of), but I work with viruses and HPV is one of them.

And I'm glad you saw it as just a joke. I did use the wink. It was just too easy.

I use an old voodoo 3 in my home file server, passive heatsink but damn it gets hot. If the 5500 is anything like it then you'd need something big.

slap a Athlon heatsink(no fan) on there with some Arctic Silver thermal adhesive, works with my Ti-4200 without a problem.

I actually removed both fans from the V5 in my secondary system. I never use 3D apps on it anyway so it works fine. Heck maybe 3D apps will work too but I haven't tried testing it yet.

Then perhaps replacing the 2 HSF's with the Zalman chipset heatsink
(and maybe a Panaflo L1A) might do the trick?
