How to put a RPM sensor wire on a fan that don't have one ?

I've got a couple of real nice 80mm fans but they didnt come with the yellow ROM sensor wire, can I makeshift put one on them ?

It's far more trouble than its worth IMO.

You would have to use a miniature IR transceiver pointed at the tips of the blades. (this has a 850nM source and phototransistor built into the same can) You would need to convert the TTL output depending on the number of blades the fan has to a value the mainboard will tranlate into revs/min in software OR you can make your own LCD to report this value...

I'd hafta agree with Sharkeeper, after wasting 10mins of my valuble time reading that article, while interesting, it doesn't seem to bne worthwhile.
