How to put a promotion on a resume

I recently got a promotion (~1-month ago), and am wondering how exactly it should appear on my resume.

Is it something that replaces the previous position completely?
Or is it something that merits a brand new section of its own?
Or should it be combined with the previous position under the new title?

Wait... you were just promoted a month ago and you're already thinking about leaving? :D

My opinion is that unless you acheived something significant in your new role, it doesn't deserve its own section yet-- I would simply do something like this:

May 1996 - Present XYZ Corporation
Account Manager
Promoted to Senior Sales Consultant, March 2006

I wouldn't put it on a resume--that should list your latest position. Instead, discuss it in your cover letter as an achievement.

Should look like this:

08/01 ? Current THE Company, Somewhere, California

02/06 ? Current, Senior Sales Consultant. Responsibilities include strategic blah blah blah.
08/01 ? 02/06, Junior Sales Consultant. Responsibilities included strategic blah blah blah.

OK, the boards stripped the formatting - that's the meat, up to you to make it look pretty with tabs and indents.

I treat it as an entirely different section, but under the same company.

My resume looks like this:

01/01 - Present Company XYZ
..................................02/06 - Present new job title
...........................................Current position duties
...................................01/01 - 02/06 previous job title
...........................................Previous duties

Since spaces were being stripped out, review above and extract periods.

This looks like most preferred formatting.

Yeah i wouldn't be putting a promotion from a month ago on a resume if its seeking a new job. Any potential employer is going to be like "wtf...he gets a promotion then leaves?" *insert sound of paper shredder here*

It's more of the fact that I like to keep my resume current, not that I'm looking for another job. Having a current resume on hand when I find that job that pays double where I am now is a good thing imho.
