How to properly dispose of a UPS

I bought a new APC UPS to replace my old APC UPS.

APC says to bring the old UPS to an authorized place for proper disposal and to go to APC.com to see a list of authorized places. I can't find this list. Should I just toss the UPS in my office's dumpster?

I looked at that PDF. I don't want to send the old UPS to Canada. Especially since it weighs at least 15 pounds.

Plus it's hard to believe that there are no disposal centers in the USA.

I took mine apart, and disposed of the components in normal garbage/trash. Yeah - I know - an ecological sin. If Waste Management wants me to do otherwise, they should tell me or at least post it on their website. Cheers!

Take out the lead battery and leave at your local auto parts store.
The remainder can be left for garbage waste.

You can take it to a best buy and dispose of it as a battery since that what it is. They don't charge and it isn't really in the store it's in between the automatic doors. Not sure if it would fit can't remember if there was a small hole or no hole but I am sure it would fit inside the reciptical.

pull battery out, take to auto store or some place like that. The rest can be tossed in normal garbage, but personally I'd just get a replacement battery for the unit and use it for something 😉

I'm in the same situation...are there any guides to opening up the case to get the battery out?

I unscrewed the back cover, but I can't seem to open up the case any further...it seems stuck.

Like all other computer components, you just put them in the street for the trash pickup, and somebody will grab them instantly. Then, disposal becomes THEIR problem. 😉

Just like the "nicely wrap a package of heavy junk and leave in an unlocked car trick". But be sure to be gone before the perp can get back with the heavy tools... 😉
