How to promote a server

I recently put up a Tf2 server. Without resorting to spamming people, what can I do to promote it? Good latencies and properly maintained.

Ask DICE to rebuild the entire search query index so that your $70/month server is full for the first 4 days of release and empty for the next 3 months!

You need to admin like 4 or 5 people who actively play on it throughout the day. 24/7 <map> does work. You could try payload only/flag only maps.'

Maybe add stats.

2Fort5 used to play different. There was 3 different respawns up top and there wasn't hp packs in the basement. There was a resupply room that you had to walk to. Stalemate map on big servers though.

Don't understand this concept. Fort is the worst map imo

Not at all. 2Fort is a great map when you want to sit back and relax/chat/laugh with friends while playing TF2. The way it's setup you don't have 5 minute objective timers or new maps breaking up play. I totally get why 24/7 2Fort maps are always full.

How do you know it's good latency? With people from all over the world, you cannot guarantee it, haha.

trying to say that besides distance and nodes in between, the network and system are both capable of delivering great service to players

So advertising is a tricky beast. Some things I would recommend if you don't want to spam is as follows:

  • 1. Set up/include info on your Web site regarding the Server.
    2. On boards like this and any TF boards you participate in, include a link in your Signature.
    3. Start a few (though not to many) threads including information about your server on TF relevant boards you post to.
    4. Chat with other players while on their server and invite them over to your server.
    5. Make sure your server doesn't have problems and is administered properly

the above should get you started at least somewhat without having to spam. But even your post here could use some information to enhance intice people to come see it.
