How to programatically figure the playtime of an MP3?

Just wondering if it's somewhat simple to figure the playtime of an MP3 (CBR, not VBR.. VBR would probably be a nightmare). I want to write a script that goes through a whole directory and totals up the play-time of all MP3s in that folder. Anyone have a clue on how to fetch the length of the tune?

determine the bitrate of the mp3 using the bitrate field that's mentioned in the above links and then divide it by the filesize to get the length of the song

you will need to divide the bitrate by 8 to convert it to bytes, or you can do the opposide and multiply the filesize by 8
