How to program buttons on an MS Wireless Mouse 5000?

Got this new mouse that has extra buttons on the left and right side of it. I think I'd like to finally have a way to change the volume on the computer other than desperately grasping for the speaker button or keyboard volume control when something is all of a sudden playing too loudly.

The program is asking me to write a macro to do this...but I have no idea what that means. Can anyone help?

Already saw that. I have no idea what this means:

6. Click the Editor box, and then enter your macro. You can record events such as keystrokes, mouse clicks, and delays between actions. (You cannot record mouse movements or actions that are performed by macros that are assigned to reassignable keys.)

Once you click the Editor box; any actions that you do with the keyboard will be stored to be associated with the selected mouse key until you tell it to stop recording.

So, if you use a function key to adjust the volume; press that key a couple of times while recording.
then when you click the mouse button; it will simulate the pressing of the volume key.
