How to prep a new battery in the laptop?

New battery just arrived. Anything special I need to do before installing and turning on my laptop? Should I run the battery calibrating utility upon first boot in the bios?

You could run the battery calibrating utility. I'd just stick the battery in the machine first, let it charge all the way and then let it drain down while using the notebook to see if you have any improvement. The battery has circuitry within it to tell the computer what the current state of the battery is. If it is unexpectedly short, then I'd run the utility.

What i hear is that you should, like Brain said, full charge it, and then unplug and let it get down to about 10% or so. Full charge, unplug, down to 10% one, two times more at the most and you should be set.
