How to post links to dell.com product pages

With the flurry of dell.com bargains, it is obvious that most posters don't know how to post product links for this website. This is mostly because of the "session timeout" nonsense. Getting past this is quite easy, though.

Start by going to the product page for the item, in this case the BELKIN COMPONENTS 8 Port 10/100 SOHO Network Switch. Copying the URL for this page gives you:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...=search.asp&icompatid=&instock=0&refurbished=

Notice the first part of the .asp paramaters: Sku=281977

This Dell SKU is sufficient to identify the product. So, just CHOP OFF that monster URL so that it stops after the SKU:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.asp?Sku=281977

This takes you right to the product page.

<< Wow! Thanks for the Hot Dea.....ummmmm.....lesson? Maybe this should be posted in the Highly Technical Forum.....cause damn, it was beyond me how to post a link........ >>

Actually, I've seen about 5 or 6 dell deals lately and none have linked to the product (which is a pain since dell makes you go through a million screens)... I'm against forum clog but I think this is a warrented post..

No, goog40, they DON'T work and that is the problem. The long links are "session" links and time out after some predefined period of time (1 hour, 12 hours, ???).

I think this is a great post! This will actually work at a lot of different sites that use session timeouts, and might stop the flurry of people accidentally posting their personal info.

Are you talking about links like the first one you posted? Because there aren't any session IDs that I can see, those links always worked fine for me. I have never gotten a session timeout message from Dell, AFAIK they don't use session IDs anywhere

Thanks for the tip. You ARE a BigDoggie! Now, I assume that the link you posted is just an example, because it does not work, or lead to any product.

Sesopedalian, whe I posted it yesterday, it led to one of the Belkin switches that were on super-special... but they are gone, gone, gone.

The trick still works, though, on stuff that is in stock.
