I need to get my mind off something, and having a piano here at home, I thought about learning some basics. Does anyone know a good site with piano lessons?

Thanks,
Kuk

for piano..especially for beginner, you should get an experienced teacher to start with as posture, hand position and wrist movement are very important to future progression.

No website can teach you that or correct any Mistake you have regarding posture.

This applies to all music instruments i guess

I play piano... if you want to learn from scratch you need to first get a grasp of musical theory and figure out how to read simple music, understand key signatures, how to play scales, etc... this will let you have fun on your own and learn how to play more complex music on your own... but to get started in all this it is best to have a teacher and take piano lessons -- they will train you in all of the details and probably what is formally called "clasical training"

then you can practice for hours on end on your own and build up those fingers to just release all that stress letting loose on a nice 9 foot grand 🙂 alright so if you don't have a nice grand you don't know what you're missing, gotta have that heavy key action to build up that finger strength. And nothing feels as good as hitting the low notes and feeling the bass.

Thanks for the tips guys ...

I have a small musical theory background, but never developed that well.
Maybe I'm to naive to think that I may learn something so complex through web tutorials.

I just need something to keep my mind busy.

interesting enough I consider there to be two parts to the process...

one is the mental aspect or sight reading music, easily recognizing the patterns, etc. in each key signature...

and the other is the physical, and to me more fun, how nimble and strong are your fingers? running up and down the keyboard playing scales, and making up one's own pieces is most of the fun... The opening of Chopin's Revolutionary Prelude is deceptively simple, and yet it took me a month of practice for my hand to fly over it, and even now I only sound half decent... I suppose this is why you need to play the same thing over and over and over again (after it has been memorized) to get just the right intonation, etc.

Here is some musical philosophy for you that I've found to be true:

In order to play faster, you must first master being slow.

very true, very true...

You know I didn't bring my piano to college this year because i wanted it at home when I go back for Christmas break, etc. But perhaps by the last quarter I'll bring it back... It does drive me nuts that I do not play the piano every day.
