i dont even know which company would be better to work for. i work at company a now, and company b wants to hire me.

company a is large, and i work for just one of their divisions. they very recently gave me a 60% raise in hopes i wouldnt quit as threatened. nothing too wrong with this job, i could definitely earn a ok living here and it would be fairly guaranteed work for many years.

company b is a very small company that bids the same work as company a. company b has offered me a job for even more then then company a recently gave me. not much more, so the money can be considered the same. difference is company b might have more risk of downtime between jobs, however the owners do have well known connections in town (verified by people in my company anyway)

i honestly feel that company b is the place i want to be, as i am more of an independent type of worker and would rather not be a part of something so massive like i am now. how do i tell my current boss im leaving at this point though? without burning that bridge? i dont think theres going to be a good way for the fastest rising employee of a company to suddenly say 'hey im goin to the rivals, see ya but leave an open door for me in case i want back in"

is there any way i can do this nicely? i would really hate to piss off my current company because for the foreseeable future it really is a secure job.

too late. you're already on their list of unreliable employees... and when the time is right, you're gone.

Go with B no doubt what so ever. A paid you more to stay while they find someone else. You won't last after a 60% desperation raise.

As soon as they can find a replacement for you at 40% less, you're history. Companies will pay for talent-as little as they can.

Going to be tough not hurting feelings after leaving after getting a raise not to leave. Best you can do is mitigate the hurt.

-give ample warning
-discuss with the boss that you prefer the smaller company type environment
-offer to help train new person if they get one before you leave

I say go where you want to work at ... If you don't like you job, it's going to be miserable especially if the pays are equal.

Anyone who does that is a moron unless they also guarantee employment.... Which I have never encountered.

I have however left a place that asked me to sign one.
