How to place case fans - intake and outtake?

I want to put in two case fans. Should I put two intakes or one intake and one outtake. If I need both an intake and outtake, does it matter where I place each one?

Keep them balanced - one in, one out. I've found the best place for an intake is right over the cpu. Ideal exhaust would be a blowhole, IMO. Unfortunately most cases don't come equipped like this, so cutting is required. If you don't want to put your case under the knife you might consider an exhaust in the back of the case as most cases provide a place for a fan there. Even more cases provide for an intake at the lower front of the case, but I've never found them to be of much use.

Upper rear, intake but ducted to the CPU's HSF.

Does duct exist for specific for this? If so makes it?

Also I'm looking for a CPU HSF. Cost isn't a big concern (though I don't want any liquid cooling based product); cooling ability is more important than noise, though both would be nice. I've looked at a Vantec Aeroflow VP4-C7040.

Anyone with recommendations? I'm using an i478 2.4GHz B0.

Thanks.

I had that in my system - Switched my rear to intake and dropped my cpu temps by about 5C plus reduced the touch-temp on the back of my GF4.

Although, the air out of my psu does feel warmer.

What HSF do you have on your CPU? I have an alpha pal 8045 that blows out. It seems like the outward air from the CPU would conflict with the incoming air from the back

I use a ThermalTake Volcano 7+ on slow fan speed averaging 3000-3500 rpm. The air is blown onto the heatsink by the fan attached. Works well for me.

There are many commercially built ducts for sale at most computer geek websites. There are also several threads here on homemade ducts. Give that Search feature a try. I bet you'll get several hits.
