after my sway bar upgrade, it becomes clear that my stock tires are crap. How to go about picking new tires?

being in socal, i seldom see rain and never see snow. I don't care about noise and comfort. i just want a tire that can grip as hard as possible without wearing out horribly fast.

i have a 2003 accord, but the wheels are from a 2000 v6 accord ex.

try the tirerack decent prices on a huge selection of tires for most any car. Bring up your model of vehicle and start looking at tires based on different characteristics. Read buyer reviews to get an idea of what each tire is like.

If you want grip it is going to wear. Look at z rated or y rated tires. Just get something with above a 250 treadwear.

yes, i understand that and that is fine. I just don't want to buy a new set of tires every 10-15k miles.

TireRack says those 2000 V6 EX rims are only 15". Are those the rims you have, or are they a optional bigger Honda rim? If you have 15's, I'd upgrade to at least a 16 or 17 since you seem concerned with handling.

I have 16s, they are from the coupe, which had bigger wheels than the sedans.

Get Michelin Pilots. They have pretty damn good treadwear. Over 300 I believe. $$$ though, so maybe look at cheaper brands with equal treadwear.

I knew I should have just done that in my post... I have Michelin Pilot Sports on my Talon, and I love em! Great in the dry and in the wet (rain or snow). Great grip, tire wear, not too noisy either. Definitely would recommend these tires to anyone looking for a sporty all-season tire.

Minus the price they are the best.

whao. those new Potenza are not even out yet. I only remember the RE series and the excellent S-0x series.... both are great and pricy. not sure about the new G series.

anyways, if memory serves me right... the good price/performance ratio tires are the Dunlop SP Sports A2 and the Toyo Proxxes (i believe they are called TPT now)

Dunlop has some v-rated with good threadwear. I had the asymmetric one. Excellent grip wet and dry.

Even though it doesn't help you at all... Here is a funny story involving my 55 year old mother....

She has a LeBaron ragtop. She drives like most 50+ people do (safely etc...) I know I know... why did she get the lebaron.. that's a story in itself.

Anyway, she goes to a local shop for new tires since she ran the factory 4 for 40K (still good tread)... She tells the salesguy she wanted XYZ Brand at $120 each. The salesman laughs, looks at her and tells my 55 year old mother that the tires she chose are only rated for 200 MPH and for the lebaron, she should get ABC Brand rated at 320 MPH... She just looked at him, looked at me and then asked me. "Is this idiot serious? Please take my keys if I'm nearing 200 MPH" The said idiot turns and completes writting up the 4 tires my mom requests....

Edit for typo in miles on her original 4.

Bridgestone Potenza RE750.

I've been on the Potenza RE tires for years and they're the best bang for the buck.

i'd go with potenza's also. have gone about 15k on mine and i have about half the tread left. these are the S-03's also, which are high performance tires. $160 each.

That reminds me of the tire sales guy that got upset with me because I was replacing the Goodyear Eagle GT tires on an 82 Dodge Charger with Goodyear all weathers. I asked him if he was under the impression that I was running the Daytona 500 with this 2.2 litre glorified Omni 024? The Eagle GT tires that came on the thing from the factory didn't even last 30,000 miles and were worthless in the rain yet cost over double the all weathers.

I'd agree. I've had many, many tires from p-zeros, to michelin to falken to yokohama, etc.

The bridgestone potenzas have offered the best balance of grip, wet/dry, treadwear. I generally get 50K miles out of them with aggressive driving.

Ah, I see you went the expensive route. OS used the CL type-s sway bar. $60

Yep, I wanted to do the 20MM 2004 TL-S 6MT sway, but the parts are on national backorder. It would've been $60 shipped also. I paid $113 for the Comptech from a local shop (Motorsport Dynamics in Sac). It's 22MM... only 3MM larger than OS'.
