how to pick an optometrist

anything in particular to look for? certifications?

i usually go to D.O.C. places, but i've seen a few chains that are pretty cheap ($70 for two pairs of glasses and free eye exam).

i usually go by:

1. one that accepts my insurance
2. location of office
3. how pretty the office is

usually if 2 and 3 or nice, i know that the optometrist is decent and that they don't completely suck.

i forgo 2 and 3 if it's an asian optometrist my mom knows that i can get hookups off of. otherwise, in LA i choose beverly hills optometrists.

I actually found an awesome one at the local Walmart clinic. Wife had an injury and we went there to get it looked at. The guy runs it on the side of his usual practice a couple days a week.

I flip open my list of providers from my insurance company and go down the line based on location and how far out I have to make an appointment. I'm sure your selection of glasses that fall under their advertisement are rather limited and probably not the best looking either. They might also make you pay a large amount for the lenses, they're there to make money from you, not give you a great deal for your benefit.

Last time I went to the eye doctor I used the doctor located 'inside' of lenscrafters because i had a GC for there from my mother, got it over with in 1 trip.

Walmart does a good job for $65 and at zennioptical for as low as $8.95 for glasses. Just got my $19 frameless pair from them, took them to walmart to have the prescription checked and it was spot on.

Why? Opthamologist perform surgeries such as lasik and cataracts. Optometrists are just as well suited if not better to perscribe glasses, contacts and diagnose ocular health issues.
