Hi,
There seems to be some problems with my windows xp installation. It freezes before reaching the Windows logo with the moving bar. This happened after I moved to my new place.

Anyway, I want to do a windows repair using the windows installation CD, but strangely the option doesn't show with my boot drive. It's supposed to show after I hit F8, agreeing with the terms and conditions. However, when I hit F8, it doesn't even go on to detect a previous installation of windows. Later on however it does warn me of a previous installation and asks me if I wanna reformat it or install over it. Neither of these are repair options.

I tried it with another working boot drive, and the repair option is there, so my question is, how do I repair my windows installation when the option isn't there? I'm only able to get to the recovery console, which is just a dos prompt.

Run "chkdsk /r" from the Recovery Console

To run chkdsk /r from the recovery console, follow these steps:

1. Restart the computer.
2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, choose the installation that you need to access from the Recovery Console.
4. When you are prompted to do so, type the administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, press ENTER.
5. At the command prompt, type chkdsk /r, and then press ENTER.
6. When Chkdsk has finished running, read the results, and then take any necessary steps to complete the process. For example, you may be prompted to run chkdsk /f to fix certain problems. Otherwise type exit at the command prompt, and then press ENTER to restart your computer.
7. If you can now boot the the desktop you should be all set. If not, reboot to the windows cd, press R at the first screen, F8 to agree to the EULA, and then you should now have the option to press R to run a repair on the partition.
