Looking to re-format my HTPC (and basically all of my PCs) to run Linux Mint 17.2.

But I have an older USB MagicJack dongle that only works in Windows.

I just tried installing VirtualBox 5.0 non-free in Mint 17.2 on my Sempron 3850 rig. Got the VM set up, got Win7 installed, then plugged in the MJ dongle and re-booted Linux.

Still, under the VB USB settings, I couldn't set it as passthrough. I clicked the icon with the USB and a plus sign, and it said "no devices".

Edit:

" if the USB device usually requires drivers for the guest OS it will also require drivers for the host in order for the USB pass through to work correctly in VirtualBox."

Does this mean that you cannot passthrough a "raw" USB device to VirtualBox running in Linux and expect it to work? That only known and supported device classes can passthrough?

"in my Ubuntu 14.04 install a VMware with windows 7 64bit, I found a MagicJack upgrade file that run in windows, after install the VM windows I plug the usb MajicJack, run the upgrade file and it works perfect, I have this upgrade file that come from MajicJack, if some one needed.. or where can I share this."
