How to partition after XP install

I accidently messed up on the 160GB partition and I can't seem to change it.

150Gb usable. I wanted.

C:20
D:20
E:40
F:40
G:15
H:15

But I accidently have:

C:20
D:20
E:40
F:5
G:40
H:15
I:10

How do I move the F, 5Gb partition and combine it with the I, 10Gb partition for a 15Gb partition? As a matter of fact, I would just like to combine F, H, and I to make 30Gb. What can I do?

Maybe this will help:

1) Right click "My Computer"
2) Click Manage
3) On the left hand side in the Computer Management window, click Disk Management
4) Right click on each of the partitions to be removed, and click Delete Partition
5) Right click on the now empty 30 GB and choose the option to create a new partition
6) Create your new one using all available remaining space, and pick/assign a drive letter

Good luck.

Edit: Yeah, you could use Partition Magic, too. I took the original question to mean that masshass81 wanted to know how to use Windows XP to do it. Partition Magic would certainly be another effective solution, though.

Your clutch is slipping... wanting that many partitions.

partition magic says "there are no partitions on this drive that can be merged"?? How do I get them to be able to merge?

removing the partitions in the way🙂

The partition should have the same file system.

Edit: and one after another (F will merge with E and G).

Thank for the help thus far. Now I have this..

C: 20
D: 20
E: 40
5gb free
G: 40
27gb free

I can't seem to merge the 5gb and 27gb, partition magic and XP computer management wont let me. It has already been deleted (5GB) and when I try to create a new partition of either the 5gb or 27gb, I can only create a max 5gb or 27gb partition respectively.

There must be a way I can use both in one partition.

hmmm....copy the contents of G to E temporarily, delete G partition, then create a 30 GB and a new 40 GB partition out of the resulting 70 GB partition? that's all I can think of. doesn't mean that's all that can be done, but I don't know how else you could handle it.

🙂 Awesome, it worked! I guess to merge, the partitions need to be adjacent to each other. Thank for all the help everyone!

No offense masshass81, but have you ever read your PartitionMagic manual. PartitionMagic 101 is that you can only merge ADJACENT partitions.

😛

I downloaded the trial version. 😉 So no, I didnt - I never read shareware 'read me' files.

I used computer management like TexDotCom suggested. Easy to use and its free! But yeah, don't make fun of the partition noob! 😉

I didn't think the trial version of PM made your changes permenemt. I thought it only demonstrated how it worked.
Could I be wrong?
