You cant change the multiplier you need to change th font side bus. 6.0x100 = 600 6.0x133 = 800

is your p3 600 of the e variety (6 x 100) or the eb variety (4.5 x 133). If its an eb dont count on getting 800 out of it. Also, make sure your cooling is sufficient before you try to overclock.

I didn't know they even have a 600EB. I thought they came in 633EB and up. Anyways you might be out of luck. There's only one more step is to go up 4.5x150=675MHz. But your RAM or some AGP video cards might not be able to handle. Which board do you have?

Hmm....what does that EB mean????? (i am a beginner)
and for 4.5 x 133mhz = 600mhz, can I change the first multiplier (4.5) higher instead of changing to 150mhz, which will affect my video card, sounds cards?

EB is a coppermine P3 (E) that runs at 133 FSB (B). Your particular CPU has a 4.5 multiplier (this CANNOT be changed) and a 133 FSB. You will not be able to get much of an overclock out of that CPU.

Hmm...CPUtester, u said that the 4.5 mulitplier cannot be changed. But in my bios, I can change the mulitplier to something higher!!!
Are you wrong OR it's just that the 4.5 can be change higher but won't have any effect to my speed?

Does setting my FSB to 150mhz affect anything?
I have a G400 video card, will it affect it? (my video card is already giving enough lockups in games >_< )

You should try it. Last week my system was a PIII-500@750MHz. Which means it's running at 150MHZ FSB and I have no problem with it for six months. it just that some RAM will have a hard time at that speed.

I think I'll try it soon.
so how can I check what is ram's brand without opening the case?
also, will I void my warranty of the cpu, ram, video card if I overclock it? cos i hear some ppl say it will.

You will probably void your warranty if you overclock and something fails. That's assuming they find out. Whether they will or not, I don't know.

Anyway, all P3s have locked multipliers, so you cannot change them. The BIOS multiplier settings have no effect on the actual multiplier. The only way you can overclock is to increase the FSB(frontside bus speed). However, seeing as you have a P3-600EB, it already uses a relatively high 133MHz FSB. Increasing it any higher might put stress on your PCI/AGP bus as well as your memory. Things will likely go wrong if your parts weren't manufactured with this tolerance in mind.

What motherboard do you have anyway? Is it a BX chipset or a i815E chipset or VIA chipset? If its the latter 2 you'd have a better chance of overclocking since your PCI/AGP speeds will be kept closer to their original specifications at higher FSBs.

Damn.........
i have a VIA chipset.
And i dont think i'll be able to overclock cos my FSB only goes up to 133mhz!!!
i dont hv 150mhz...sigh~`
well, thx to everyone who gave me advice on this.

BTW, i think my bios is Award Modular 4.51PG, and I was wondering if there's an upgrade???

If there is an updated bios available..it will be on your motherboards website..just go there and look under support and follow the directions very carefully....cause a screw up when flashing can be deadly...but its usually worth it...

The model number P6BAT-Me looks like an ECS motherboard. Their website is here. If you click on "Download" and then select "BIOS" from the "Motherboard Series" pull down menu, you will see a list of their motherboards, where the P6BAT-Me is listed.

Make sure you download the BIOS for the correct motherboard version. There are apparently 2 versions of the P6BAT-Me, V1.0A/V1.1 and V2.0
