How to overclock my hardware?

Hi guys,

i got a question, how do i overclock my hardware?

this is my hardware list. thanks

1. Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66GHz
2. Nvidia 9800 GT
3. 6GB RAM

thanks...

First read this thread.
processor o/c guide

Then, download/install the following programs:
Rivatuner 2.24, Coretemp, Cpu-z, Prime95 -> see step 3.

Do all of this, then report back. If your serious about this (you want a good overclock and not a "Yea its overclocked, can't you see the extra 1.2 fps I'm getting") I'd recommend buying a heatsink/fan to replace the one your processor comes with (which is a piece of shit btw) such as this, this2 or THIS depending on how much you want to spend. The first one there should be good enough (buy a 1600 rpm scythe s-flex fan or equivalent to go with it).

Let us know when you've gotten this far, your almost there.

likosubakti tell me I didn't link all that stuff for nothing. That'd be a piss off. Cmon man gimme some progress.

(because otherwise your computer will only use 3.5gb of your 6gb of ram.. a limitation of 32 bit windows).

i was planning on using the 64bit, but i heard that 64 bit has less compatibility with softwares rite? and 32 bit is better since its have more software compatibility... so i took the 32 bit... is there any way to overclock my CPU until i reached 3GHz?

Did you read the read the HOWTO: Overclock C2Q (Quads) and C2D (Duals) - A Guide v1.7? It's stickied at the top of the forum. It tells you how to overclock your CPU.

Ya, read that and then you should either know exactly what to do or you will have questions. I'm happy to answer questions as long as the question isn't how do I overclock my cpu.

Ya he'd probably get better performance (and not lose any available memory) by taking out the one stick. jeez.

liko - what they're saying about the ram is that your motherboard only supports dual channel operation, not triple-channel. Also, since you're using a 32-bit operating system, your machine won't recognize over 3gb.

So, removing one stick of memory will get you better performance, and for all practical purposes you won't be losing anything.

I'd recommend returning or selling the 6gb set you have and purchasing a 4gb set. Unless you're planning on upgrading to an i7 system anytime soon.

I'm unsubscribing from this thread, I will not be posting in it again. I hope someone gets use out of my first post with the links cus it took time to do. Ty for reading. Goodluck to all who post here.
