How to overclock my E8400?

Hi,

Here is what I am working with.

E8400 E0 stepping
P5Q P45 Mobo
4 Gigz OCZ Platinum 1066 DDR2 Ram
BFG GTX 260 OC Edition
Generic Cheap 585W Power Supply (Had good reviews)
Cooler Master Mystique 632S Case

CPU has the retail heatsink/fan. Can't really afford to get fancy with this, but if you offer some cheap suggestions to cool the CPU better that would be great.

No form of HD, Ram, or video card cooling at all. I am relying at the two big fans that came in the case, and will also add a side fan soon as I soon as I figure out which size to buy.

So based on these specs, how far can I overclock this system and which settings can you recommend for me to run everything stable and have the rig last. If you need more info please let me know. Thanks in advance

For one, take at look at the overclocking thread. It's actually not as difficult as you think. With an E0 E8400, hopefully you'll easily get to at least 4.0 GHz. Your ram is overkill, but you'll be fine. For one, find out what your VID is or your stock voltage. Use core temp 0.99.3 or real temp to found out what it is as a starting point.

E0 E8400? 500 x 9 = 4500mhz - kind of extreme. You're looking at anywhere from 4100mhz - 4350mhz within your temp & voltage limits.

less than 1.4v Vcore read in cpu-z during CPU load. And greater than 25C distance to TJmax (or approximately < 75C core temperature) at all times during stress testing at full load.

Well first of all, here are your problems:

BFG GTX 260 OC Edition
Generic Cheap 585W Power Supply (Had good reviews)
Cooler Master Mystique 632S Case

they totally relate to overclocking and were necessary information to include
