How To Overclock an Asus A7N8X - I Forgot

It has been a while since I played around with overclocking and recently was given a PC with an A7N8X-C board with an Athlon XP 1100 CPU (11 X 100). In the BIOS it appears to be set at all default settings. I used to know what to change (multiplier, etc.) to overclock but I can't remember how to do it. Can someone help me out?

IIRC, increase the HT frequency (similar to FSB on LGA775) and modify the memory multipliers to keep the memory somewhere around stock frequency. You may also need to drop the HT multiplier.

Increase CPU (Vcore) voltage as needed, and possibly memory voltage (VDimm) as well.

Ummm that's socket A which does not have a hyper transport. It definitely has a FSB.

Just raise the FSB. I don't recall if there is a 33MHz PCI lock on that board or not. If not watch your PCI frequency! Many HDD don't like going higher than 37MHz or so.
The CPU core will need to be raised as well but check the temperatures! These chips will run hot with OEM Taisol coolers!

Yeah, pretty much just increase the FSB, multi, and vcore. Not much else to adjust back then.

That board should have a PCI lock. I'm pretty sure that was one of of the major features of the nForce 2 boards.

Isn't there a pencil mod that allows you to unlock the multiplier on Athlon XP chips?

XPs were plastic and the link breaks were below the surface so pencil lines (unlike ceramic chips) would not cut it. It was somewhat of a PITA but could be done with a few minutes time, some Scotch tape, and a windscreen defogger repair kit.

Here's a video from THG that shows you EXACTLY how to do this.
