How to open ports?

I'm new to the whole port forwarding thing....

I'm trying to speed up Utorrent and I need to open a port.....

Ubuntu 9.04 64 took forever....I think downloading it normally would have faster!

I am running the Tomato firmware....

How the heck do I set this up? Driving me insane.

Don't know if i'll use it for any other Linux distros....

First you need to know which port you need to open and the IP address of your local computer. You can find that by running ipconfig from a command prompt or by checking out the properties of your NIC through the Control Panel. The port should be listed somewhere in Utorrent and they might even have a tool to help you test it. Once you have those two pieces of information head to the Port Forwarding page in the Tomato firmware.

In the first drop down box choose 'Both'. Leave the src address blank. For ext ports and int ports put in the port number you gathered from UTorrent. For int address put in your local computers IP address.

I tried that and it was still closed!

Thought Upnp was a huge security risk.

Make sure you allow the same port through any software firewalls you are running on your computer, even the windows firewall.
