I apologize beforehand, I am new at this stuff. I was recently trying to play a internet game and was informed that I have to open port 5121. Now I have no idea what that means at all. I asked someone, who told me i have to go to the "virtual server" and another screen change some stuff. Here are the two screens below:

http://www.geocities.com/nabiscc/2.GIF (virtual server)
http://www.geocities.com/nabiscc/1.GIF (special apps settings)

I need the 5121 port to receive incoming people. I have a router, So i have an external IP which i got from www.showmyip.com and the internal one made by the router which is : 192.168.2.9 but my router ip is 192.168.2.1

I originally posted this message at this thread, (http://www.forumplanet.com/planetneverwinter/topic.asp?fid=3404&tid=1190081) which gave me some information, but I still did not understand how to fix my problem. When I try to host a game, everytime someone tries to log on to it, they keep getting "server timed out". That is the true problem I am trying to fix.

Ignore the "Special Application Settings" page completely, as it does not apply to what you are doing. Set the Virtual Server page so that line 1 says 192.168.2.9 under Private IP, 5121 under Private Port, TCP selected under Type, and 5121 under Public Port. Line 2 should be identical, save for UDP selected under Type (if necessary).

If you want to make sure this setting continues to work, make sure your computer's private IP is set statically, rather than dynamically using DHCP. You do that through your computer's tcp/ip setup, not through any router config.

You need to login to your router admin page. Usually there's a seperate program installed with your router on the main computer thats hooked up to the modem/router. Or you can access the admin page by opening up IE and typing the router ip: 192.168.2.1, then enter your login info.

Neverwinter nights requires UDP. I did exactly as you said, and when people try and join my server, they are still getting the "server timed out". I use 56k, so i turned the DHCP off anyways. Is it a problem that my LAN connection IP is different than my computer IP? I turned my router firewall off, thinking that that may be the problem, but that doesn't work either. Any other ideas?

The Belkin CD sucks. It doesn't do anything.

If you have your internet connected directly to your computer, and the internet is working (you can browse the web, etc.), then you have successfully ruled out the router as the cause of the problem. Other things to look at are any software firewalls (built into the OS or otherwise), and the game itself. At this point it's hard to give specific advice, but you should doublecheck to see if Zone Alarm or other installed firewall is not running, and check to see if the firewall built into XP (if you're using XP) is turned off. After that, check the game's FAQ for further advice.

Good luck!

the games FAQ didnt' help at all.....that was the first thing i consulted. I shut down zone alarm and made sure that the internet connection firewall was turned off. Still didn't work. Do you think it could be something with my ISP? Could they stop incoming messagse from occuring?
