how to oc Phenom x4 925 with Asus Mobo M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 over 3.6GHZ

hai this my new rig:

  1. Phenom x4 925 (3.4 ghz)using OC FROM CPU LEVEL UP IN BIOS,
  2. Mobo asusM4A89GTD PRO/USB3.
  3. Gpu HD 5850(CrossFire 2 way).
  4. Ram HyperX 1600 4G.
  5. Psu Cooler Master 1000w.
  6. Water Cooler Aquagate.
the problem is always blue screen when over the 3.4, and yet i new in OC AMD processor with intel i have no problem. Can u help me the guideline for me to OC above 3.4 what the volt.

I would help if you state exactly what you have done, and all other settings you have dialled in using your available BIOS settings.

For example, have you raised your vcore? If so, to what?

Does "OC FROM CPU LEVEL UP IN BIOS" mean you only adjusted the multi? Is that a black edition processor? Or did you actually increase the HT ref clock? If so, did you also adjust the NB voltage, or could you say what it is currently set to?

Perhaps your CPU-NB clock has also been increased due to HT ref clock increase, but you have not yet adjusted the CPU-NB voltage to compensate?

It could also be your RAM. Perhaps you are set to the highest multiplier, and the increase in HT ref clock (if that is indeed the case) overclocked the RAM beyond stability, at least for your current DRAM voltage setting. In that case, you can choose a lower multiplier or try to increase the DRAM voltage to stabilize your system.

As usual, more information will go a long way for us to help you in your OC attempt.

No sense in repeating this info, hit goole and look for " Dolks Phenom II overclocking guide ".

A blue screen at 3.4 just means you're short on voltage. I'd advise you look for people with the same cpu (or even a 955) on google then just copy their settings. There's a ton of people who have already posted overclocking results/voltages/settings.

Congrats on the new setup!

925's stock speed is 2.8 GHz (14x200). Since the multiplier is fixed, in order to gain 3.4 GHz the bus speed needs to be 242. (14x243=3402) Let's say you simply raise the bus speed to 240 (HTT). A few things happen.

1) Your memory frequency goes up. If your memory ratio is 1:4 @200 HTT for DDR3-1600, by raising HTT to 240 the memory will be at DDR3-1920. Obviously that is a very high frequency for any memory and it will cause BSOD. You need to lower the memory ratio.

2) Your CPU-NB frequency goes up as well. Its stock multiplier is x10, thus its frequency is 2000 MHz (10x200). By raising HTT to 240, it's now at 2400 MHz (10x240). Not many 925s handle that at default CPU-NB voltage (1.125V~1.15V). You will need to raise the CPU-NB voltage. Alternatively, lower the multiplier of CPN-NB to x8 or x9. Note that "HT Link" frequency cannot be higher than NB frequency. So you should lower its multiplier as well.

3) Your CPU simply needs more voltages.

yeah thank for your help. i got confuse with OC on AMD coz before i bought new hardware im using intel e7500 lot easy to OC but since i buy all AMD product i can like the challenge.....but why AMD include the CPU-NB and intel board dont.

Your Core 2 Duo does not have an integrated memory controller, which is what the CPU-NB setting is for in your new AMD CPU. It has a different set of options (CPU NB multiplier and voltage) independent of the main CPU frequency and vcore because AMD's IMC runs slower than the CPU. (EDIT: This disparity is also true for the Intel ix series uncore portion, but the delta seems to be smaller in the case of Intel)

Another EDIT: All info you need is found in Dolk's Overclocking guide, already referred to you by BD231. Here it is: link.

thanks guys 4 helping out. its seem clear now. what can i say i, impress with AMD product. but im ready to take new 6 core phenom but wait the price droop first. tanks...
