How to network 3 comps with satellite connection using router?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can figure out if this is possible.

I have DirecPC (satellite) installed, with an external USB satellite modem.

I want to connect 3 computers in a network, so that all comp. can use internet
independently. I know how to do it the traditional way, by using one comp. as
a server or host computer.

But the setup I'd like is more of a router setup, where the modem connects to
the router, and the router connects all computers so that I won't have to turn
on the host just to use the internet on one of the others, and that internet
access will not be interrupted on any comp.

I know this is possible with a cable/DSL modem, but they're both unavailable in
my area. So, the only alternative I have is the satellite. Is this possible? If
so, please explain how I can do this!

Thank you!

Helen

Most routers accept an ethernet connection to the modem through an uplink port. I don't know of any that communicate through USB, but I'm sure there are some out there. There are also a couple that communicate through a serial port AND an ethernet uplink port -- the SMC Barricade is one of them. I don't know if your satellite modem will do a serial connection or an ethernet one, but that might be something you should look into.

Once you get past that hurdle, everything is very easy to setup.
