OK i am having a hard time, i got 2 computers, 1 in my room and one in the family room, the one in the family room has 2 ethernet cards and the on in my room has 1, i cant get these two computers to share files or the internet, please explain for me detail by detail what to do or a website that can help me , thanks in advance

1) Physically connect two computers with a CAT5 cable.
2) On the comp with 2 NICs, find the one into which you plugged in the cable, and give it the IP of "192.168.0.1" with subnet of "255.255.255.0".
3) On the other computer, give it the IP of "192.168.0.2" with the same subnet as the first machine.
4) Make sure that NetBEUI and File Sharing is installed and enabled on both computers.
5) Go into TCP/IP properties of the Internet device of the server (the modem, or the other NIC), then into the Bindings tab, and uncheck everything but TCP/IP.
6) Restart both computers.
7) Try pinging each other.
Should work.

For starters we need to know what operating systems are on each box, and how you connect to the Internet.

Also: What are your network settings on each box -- no need to tell us your IP address assigned by your ISP if it is static, just the rest.

use gigacluster's instructions but use a crossover cable. you MUST use a crossover cable if you are not using a hub. it will not work otherwise.
