When i install Win2k, somehow it put the boot files like boot.ini and ntldr in another partition. Now i want to move those files back to C and how does one set the partition to not be denounced as a system drive or a boot parition when clearly Z drive does not have the winnt files and nothing boots from it.

Not exactly sure what happened. Could you explain more?
What partition did it put those files on? Z? What partition did you install Win2K to?
Is there any other OS installed?
It should have put the boot.ini and ntldr on the active primary partition, which should of been C:\

Just copy them to c:\ and make the relevant changes in the boot.ini to point to the correct partition for Win2K.

okay....well...i have 8 drives/partitions over 2 ide drives and 2 scsi drives. I used to have win2k server on the primary partition of my ibm 75gxp as c, and everything was fine. I re-installed win2k and installed pro version this time around and i chose to do a clean install, formatted the old win2k parition in the setup and everthing was fine after the install. All my drive letters got switched naturally so i use disk manager and change the drive letters back. However, my mp3 partition i couldn't switch beucase windows had dubbed it a 'system' parition, so i used a registry trick and changed the drive letters back to the way i'm used to in win2k server but then i also noticed the boot.ini, ntldr, ntdetect.com and other boot files reside in the H, mp3 drive. Now, i'm wondering how i can movve alll these files back to my C drive where the win2k pro resides without making my computer unbootable.
