I'm looking to all you brain wizards to give me idea on how to mount an lcd touchscreen in my wall. The screen will control my whole house audio using xlobby.

I will run 100' VGA and Serial touchscreen cables from the monitor to my pc.

The problem I can't figure out is how to run power?

I am going to flush mount the lcd in the wall, so how can I run power to this thing without causing a fire hazard?

good idea, but not possible in this scenario. It is in basement wall and no closets.

jigsaw a hole in the wall, take a normal outlet and turn it so its facing into the wall and plug it in, make sure theres no insulation in the section youre mounting it in

note: i am not a contractor or electrician, this is just what i would try to do if i were in your situation

Shadow,

I've thought about that too. I'm sure it goes agains like 4000 codes, but it would work ;)

^ that would be more what I would be worried about. Can't you simply put a really cheap dell computer nearby and hook the screen to it using a normal length cable?

And where did you get the touch lcd and what was the cost? I want to build a kitchen pc for my wife with all her recipies and music at hand and would like it to be touch screen. Thanks!

I exaggerated on the vga cable. It will actually only be around 30-40 feet. You CAN run vga cable over long lengths. You want to make sure you get really good shielded cable so the picture doesn't degrade.

There are lcd touchscreens all over ebay for around $300. I'm going to take the panel/guts out of the casing and build it into the wall.

The same thing could be done for a kitchen install.

You could run the power cable UP the wall into the ceiling and then drop it down to an outlet somewhere else.

Why is it in the basement? You're going to have to go down there every time you want to control the house audio.
