How to mount certain 775 heatsinks to your 1156 socket

I was able to reuse my old heatsink and save $30 with this so I thought I should post it for some. This will work with any PUSH-PIN type heatsinks for the 775 socket, such as the Freezer 7 Pro.

Simply tear the push-pins off the heatsink with pliers and find screws and washers of an appropriate thickness. First get the screws through the mounting holes on the motherboard from the bottom up, and fit the holes where the heatsink's push-pins were over them. It will fit perfectly as the 1156 mounting holes are merely at an angle from the 775 holes. Fit the washers over and use pliers to hold them in place while you tighten the mechanism from the screw with a screwdriver. It may be helpful to take the fan off the heatsink and rest the motherboard at an angle.

MAKE SURE to watch for warping, as there is no protection with this method you could tighten too far and crack the board. Tighten each of the screws a bit and alternate until the heatsink is secure but before warping begins.

Just to let you know, koolance used this method, and it was not very effective even on something as small as a waterblock.

So they got rid of it.

So id really recomend u getting real mounts and not using that for very long.

I don't see why not, the pressure is as strong and in the same places, unless the washers slide out on their own over time, I could double stack then. I was planning on keeping this for a year or two.
