Sorry for double posting, but a very good suggestion over at the "Off topic" forum was to post this here:

I just finished a little hack on my headphones that worked out so well that I have put together a guide. How to modify your Nokia handsfree set to accept regular minijack headsets: Link

It was easier than I thought in advance, so maybe someone else want to try?

Your guide looks good. The contacts are very close together and a pain in the ass to solder.

Cool. They have used the exact same female jack and volume control that I have used...
