I was messing around with the startup screen the other day, and tried to find it. I thought it was logo.sys, but I couldn't find that file in the Windows directory or in the root directory, or anywhere else for that matter. The shutdown screens, logow.sys and logos.sys are there, but not the startup screen logo.sys. Did Win98se rename it or something?

I created a BMP file of the same resolution as the 2 shutdown screens, and saved it in BMP format but as a .sys file. I placed it in both my root directory and Windows directory but Windows still starts up with the default screen. What's wrong?

OK, I think I know why it didn't show up. I was saving it as a 24bit color BMP when its supposed to be an 8bit BMP. That's part of the problem. Anyway, its an 8bit BMP now(256 colors), but I'm still having some problems with it. The image loads up, but the colors are all weird and keep flashing. Does this have anything to do with the scrolling bar animation at the bottom of the Windows startup screen? Or do I have to use a standard 256 palette? I reduced it from 24bit color to 8bit color by converting it in Photoshop from RGB color mode to 256 indexed color mode, using an "adaptive" palette if I remember correctly.

OK, I got the startup screen fixed, turns out it was the palette thing that caused the blinking/flashing.

However, 1 last thing. Is there any way I can get the animated scrollbar at the bottom of the startup screen on my own startup screen?
