I'm going to brooklyn, NY.

Any easy routes to go around the tolls?

Past life experience tells me that taking that longer "free" route costs about the same in fuel (+/-, ymmv, etc.), but much more in time.

<driven across the US more times than I can recount in the name of Rock & Roll Inc.

yea, go up through the holland tunnel. it'll save u about $10 in tolls, but it'll cost u an hour plus 10 extra miles.

hm.. avoid the md, and delaware tolls.
but How much cheaper is the PA Turnpike?

go up 15 to Harrisburg, connect to
78 only thing you will get then is the bridge tolls(NY)

Seems like that would add quite a bit of time and distance to his trip

going from brooklyn to NJ you could've avoided taking the verrazano bridge (it's a one way toll, westbound to Staten Island only) by going to NJ via manhattan (taking Brooklyn Bridge).

but you do waste a lot more miles going that way, not to mention time spent in downtown cross-manhattan traffic

verrazano on the way in
holland on the way out

nothing else really available that doesn't cost you more money via mileage

on second thought taking 78E like the above google maps directions have it might not be that bad. the turnpike is what's really costing you so skipping that would be the best gain

Just be thankful you're in a car and not a big tig, driving thru some of those states I think cost me more money than I made that day.
