How to mess around with latency timings

Mrvile

Lifer
I know how I can change my timings, but how do I make sure they're stable? Is there a special program I have to run?

I don't feel like running Memtest (although I should) because, a. I don't have any floppys around (yes they are dying) and b. You have to run it for like 10 hours...

So every time I wanna fiddle with timings I have to run 3DMark for hours? Ugh.

If you want to know that it's at least halfway stable, yes.

If you look around here and watch others over clock and what not, you'll make a good gauge for yourself in what's realistic and what's not.

If your RAM is rated 3-3-3 or 3-2-3 and you keep it at the rated bus speed, then you might get away with 2-2-2 or 2-2-3. Depends on what brand of RAM as well. Corsair is well known for going beyond it's rated timings as well as OCz and Muskin. However overclocking is never a certainty.

Now if you increased the bus speed over the rated speed of the RAM, odds are you might have to even loosen up the RAM timings to make it run 100%.

Remember, in the end 2.5 CAS Value Ram rated for your BUS speed is really all you need if you're not a ethousasist. We are talking a very minimal gain in performance.
