How to merge WhatsApp chat histories from 2 different devices (but same account)

Hi,

I upgraded from a Nexus 5 to a Pixel a few months ago, and when I tried restoring history from the Google Drive backup on my Pixel upon WhatsApp installation, it failed.

I still have my Nexus 5 with WhatsApp installed, and all the DB files are still there. Is there a way I can import the old chat history to my Pixel?

I've googled this and came across solutions that involve using WhatsAppKeyDBExtract, but while this was successful for backing up from my Nexus 5, it failed for my Pixel. Here's the output:

Anyone? Official response from WhatsApp is that I'm only able to restore an old backup, and not merge backups. Is this really impossible?

Personally I'm not too sure. There might be some db tricks but WhatsApp can only handle 1 db restore AFAIK. That's why I've been pretty diligent about keeping history since using it in 2011 when I switch devices.
