How to measure total system power

I'm looking to see what kind of power draw my system has at idle and load. First off 'cause I've been curious about it for quite awhile. And I want to make sure I'm not approaching the limits of my PSU while OC'd.
So is this something that can be done relatively cheaply or does it require some expense equipment.

You need a meter (like that thing that tells the electric company how much to charge you )... They sell plenty of cheap plug in digital meters.... like kill-a-watt.
