How to manage XP client workstation using AD Server in a domain environment?

Using 2K clients in the domain I can set GPOs, apply it to the user, and when the user logs on the policy will take effect. But using an XP workstation as a member of the domain I can't seem to apply group policies to the user on the XP workstation. I always though Windows XP Home/Pro's can be managed client machines under 2000 Server??

I created the XP OU, moved the appropriate user into that OU. Created and applied the group policy. And updated the policies on the server machine using both computer/user "secedit" commands in the run menu. Please gimme a hand here if you can, thx.

Also, if I have a client that usually logs onto a 2K Pro machine, and now I have him log onto an XP machine, will that cause any problems in terms of his profiles?

They can. It depends on the policy you want to enforce. If it's a common policy (to 2k and XP) then you should have no problems. If its a policy setting only found under XP ( and there are a good amount of XP specific policies) then you will need to think about extending your AD schema. Unfortunately, the schema extension will only come with .Net server. Ive tried the beta. It just wont do the trick. You cannot use >net beta to modify a 2k AS forest schema. It wont work anyway I know of.

I've beat my head against the wall a million times with this. I wouldnt recommmend trying it untill MS gets it sorted out.

Hmmm...is that right. I've get to get a firm grip on 2000 Server and MS starts coming out with .NET Server and Enterprise Server I just tried something as simple as disabling the run command from the start menu and that didn't work either.

Where did you get your hands on the beta .NET Server may I ask? Please PM me
