i think i got rid of it by finally giving in and clicking on the tool tip. once its all loaded exit and it should leave you alone.

The best way to make XP a lot less annoying is to install Win2K. Or you could take it a step further and install Linux =)

If you go to run/gpedit.msc you get the group policies. Click on the bottom one and then browse the options under desktop and Start Menu. One of them is remove balloon tips--all balloon tips. There are other options you might want to implement.

To get rid of messenger for good: Start run and type or copy "RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove" no quotes.
