Ok finally got my DSL working right with my router, and its all connected and my XP system works fine, posting on it now.

I also have a windows 98SE system on network, and it can see XP system fine, but it wont access internet through router yet. It wants to use old diap up connection or it just gives errors....any ideas/help?

thanks

Turn off the firewall on XP, it kills the whole network.

Do you plan to keep the dial-up connection? If not, you can delete it from the network panel in the control panel. Delete the TCP/IP setting that points to dial-up connection, as well.

on your 98 box just find the internet connection wizard and tell it to connect through your lan. Make sure you click on the never dial a connection box, no need to undo all your configuration for your dialup account.

Does your Router have a Switch in it also or do you have an external Hub or Switch? How do you have it all connected? If router has switch one LAN port should to to the 98 machine and one to the XP box. Like was said above go to the control panel and internet and on the connection tab make sure it's set to NEVER DIAL A CONNECTION. It should then work on the net. If not report back. Am just curious since you did not say you had a switch how you had it connected to make sure you are not using 2 NICS in the XP box and connecting the 98 machine to the XP system!

Can you also see the 98 System on the XP System? on the 98 system open a Dos Window and type ipconfig and see what it reports. Should show the IP of the 98 system and also on the 3rd line the Domain which should be the routers IP if you are using the DHCP server in the router.
