Mr. Pickens thread on nested quotes got me thinking... why should the mods have to search all over the place for offenders... why run around with empty hooks or wander through the woods aimlessly when instead, they could bait a few hooks and set up a few snares and just wait. If there are offenders out there, a few well set traps would eliminate a lot of the trouble in policing them...

So, what are some ideas for threads that would cause the offenders to school in one place, waiting for S.S. Anandtech trawler to just toss a net and haul a whole bunch on board:

My suggestion:
Topic: Hey, how do you get around the language filter?
Summary: I've seen people do this and was wondering how.

Your suggestions?

Banning Members does not make our life easier. Mr. Pickin's thread should have been locked earlier as the results were predictable. Of course those who ended up getting a timeout should have known better but I guess common sense is in rather short supply here.

"I hate moderators!"
"The mean mod keeps censoring me!"

That should get the OP nailed in record time.

I think the idea of "trapping" posters is really dumb, and insulting. Oh no, a poster didn't know that he couldn't do what FuseTalk completely allows him to do, and that no written rule anywhere disallows - ban!

If any small or mid-sized forum was run like this, it'd quickly die out. Fortunately for the owners of this one the critical mass exists to keep the place going anyways.

I've been making an effort to fully-bleep of my own free will the Seven Dirty Words, instead of just letter-swapping.

However, if they can say it on the radio during prime time, I consider it fair game. If Pink Floyd can say "bullshit" in Money, it's fine with me. :)

"My life has changed since I found God"
"I only listen to rap music"
"Have we ever had as good a president?"
"Any other virgins here?"

Are you ignoring common sense though? That's like saying, "Hmmmm. Fusetalk won't allow me to post the F-word or the C-word. Heyyyy, I know what I can do to get around the filter!" You'll note that my suggestion in the OP was exactly that: gather the people together who ignore common sense and break what are obviously rules.
(Although, I think the other 4 letter word besides crap, dung, and poop, which means the same thing (starts with s, rhymes with hit) shouldn't be blocked.)

Thanks for the good laugh.

And, all three of those threads would probably work.

Or just complain about anything that is against the rules, and wait for-

How about just "installing a large "REPORT THIS POST" button on every Thread/post, so when someone stupid crosses the line, all you gotta do is click that button?
MANY forums have similar reporting features that go directly to the Mods...
Do they get some bullsh*t reports? You betcha, but overall, most of them are for reasonable reasons...

this is the best option and i'm surprised they don't use it here, unless they used to and got too many people using it for wrong or dumb purposes
