how to make the computer automatically turn off in XP

i have windows xp, and when i hit shutdown, it does that stupid thing windows 95 used to do..."its now safe to turn off your computer" and i have to hold the button for 3 seconds! ahhhh so annoying! how do i fix it?

control panel --> power options. check the box next to "enable APM"

if that doesnt work, you probably installed windows with ACPI diabled, and you'll either have to change the HAL or format and reinstall.
