Oh, I didn't notice that you cannot right-click in the start menu-programs area...

That's odd. Why not? What happens when you try?

Another way, I think:

Go to the following two folders, right-click, and arrange icons by name.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
C:\Documents and Settings\Lucid Dreams\Start Menu\Programs

when i try to right click it, nothing happens, it just sort of flashes really quickly.

You have to click on the actual menu that opens when you click Programs. :roll:

If you click on the word Programs then yes, nothing happens.

Check to make sure that "Enable dragging and dropping" is checked in the start menu properties:

Right click on the start button. (If you don't get a pop up list at this point, you have a bigger problem.)
Pick properties.

<if running xp style start menu>
Click on the Customize button.
Click on the Advanced tab at the top.
Make sure "Enable dragging and dropping" is checked in the "Start menu items" section.

<if running Classic Start menu>
Click on the Customize button.
Make sure "Enable dragging and dropping" is checked in the "Advanced Start menu options" section.

Then try the steps above to "Sort by name" in the Programs section.
