how to make protein shake?

Fenixgoon

Lifer
hi all.. im a 17 y/o looking to build up muscle over the summer for next year (i want to build muscle for next lacrosse season). i dont have a job or anything at the moment, and i was wondering if there'd be any way i could make my own protein shakes from stuff i have at home. my brother told me a tub of whey protein mix costs about $30, and you can go through them in 1-2 weeks depending on how many drinks/day you have.
if you have any other tips about working out please PM me or email me (fenixgoon@mail.softhome.net)
we have a "bowflex" at my house. ideally, by the end of the summer i would like to be able to do several sets @ 210 (the max for ours). i was up to 160 a month or two ago, but a few busy days got me out of my work-out schedule.

thanks all!

egg whites(yolks too if your stomach can handle it), milk and yogurt. err....make sure you throw in some flavoring too.

look, just find any protein shake recipe out there and switch egg whites for whey.

Protein shake within 1 hour of your workout. More than that is really unnecessary and is overkill - TOO much protein, especially in the form of whey/soy protein shakes can actually damage your kidneys unless you mitigate it by drinking LOTS of water.

You actually have to increase your intake of calories across the board in your diet - whether it's through protein shakes or food...

i buy an 11 lb. bag of generic protein powder from here.

i only take the stuff after workouts (3x/week) and a bag lasts several months.

you could also eat any other high protein food (high == 20 or more grams
of protein) after workouts - chicken breasts or (a little secret of
elite powerlifters) this.

thanks for those with actual help!!! as for the rest of you.. i thought to myself "god help me when i post on ATOT" 🙂
humor still appreciated, though

A 5lb tub of Optimum Whey from www.vitamineshoppe.com is like $30 and it will last you about 3-4 months if you take normal ammounts. I've heard a lot of different figures but most settle around 1gram of protein per pound that you weigh if you want to get bigger. I take 2 scoops in 2.5 cups of skim milk which is around 65-75 grams of protein, the rest I make up through meals. If you don't want to do that, Skim milk has 1 extra gram of protein per serving than 2% or whole milk, you could mix just drink a few tall glasses of that after eating a peanut butter sandwich (lots of sat fat in peanut butter tho) Other than that, any type of meat or animal product will have protein in it.
