How to make others access files in Win2k server ? HELP !!!!!!!

I try to give "read only" access to some of the files in D: drive under win2k server. The D drive and the related files are setup as shared ( access to everyone) and shown as shared ( with the hand holding the drives and files). But from other workstations, everytime I try to access the server, it shows "incorrect password and login" and ask for "connect as" and password entry. HELP !!!!!!!!!! Thanks.

Are the workstations listed under "users"? Or are they accessing the server under the "guest" account? If they are listed as users, then I'll have to think of a different reason for them not connecting, if they are accessing the server under the guest account, try adding them under user and turning off the guest access. I have the workstations listed under "computers" and the individual users listed under "users" and have no problem with shares.

Speed01, under Groups/users I add "everyone". There is no workstation listed under "users" Must I add the name of the workstations as users also? Please explain to me the necesary steps. I am rather a newbie about Win2k server. Thanks.

enable "guest" the account is disabled by default.. guest is basically what pre 2000 windows machine default to or just make a user and force people to login that way.

The way mine is set up, under "Active Directory Users and Computers", I have 4 branches. "Builtin", "Computers", "Domain Controllers" and "Users". Under "Computers", I have added the names of each workstation. Under "Users" I have added each user account. Yours may be different as mine is set up as a domain controller and running DHCP and such. I would imagine that no matter what configuration you are using, the workstation needs to be added in order to be able to log on to the server. Try creating an account for each user. If you still have problems after that, add the users to the list of users allowed to view each share. Hope this helps.

speed01, the way he is describing, I do not think he is using server as a domain controller. If he were, then the computers would already be added in AD and default to his authorized users group for a machine connection. He could map a drive and use the "connect as a different user" option and set for "guest" with "guest" or something as the password.
