I don't care about the warranty, I just want to be able to watch all the DVD movies since I am planning to take my DVD back to my country which is region 3.... Thanks for any help.. if somebody knows, please tell me how to do it or send me an email how to do it... I am so desperately need help on this situations....my email is stingbandel@hotmail.com

I know on my pioneer 104s (10x dvd), I needed a modified firmware update to make it region free. I got it here:

http://www.7thzone.com/

They have all sorts of DVD info. They might have a region free firmware for the 16x.

I used the Pioneer 105S Firmware update listed at this site: http://www.firmware.com.bi/

The firmware on my drive was 1.11, this update moved it to 1.14 there were no details in the .zip file outside of syntax for updating and such. After running the update the drive at bootup now was listed at 1.14 instead of 1.11. In Win98 SE the drive was lited as a Pioneer DVD-ROM 105R (I believe before it was 105S). Running Drive Info 1.02 it says my drive is not region locked.

Now the really really bad part.... If I stick a CD-ROM or DVD into the drive my system instantly hardlocks. =\

All this has occured within the last hour or so of this post so still working with it to see what I can do.

The 16x is a 4th generation drive, and as far as I can tell (believe me, I've looked), there are no 4th generation drives that can be hacked to region free..... yet. But as the others have already noted, there is a great site to keep current on just that topic.

Does 7thzone even have hacked firmware upgrades? When they changed over from dvdutils, the hacked firmware for my 104S disappeared.

Eug: The firmware for Pioneer 104 is in here http://members.xoom.com/zozo00/fekete.htm

Jaybird: I am still looking for Pioneer 115 but we have to wait until Pioneer Corp. release the update firmware then someone will try to make it region free. Jaybord I have another question for you: does your Pioneer have volume level in the front? And does it have spdif output in the back? I don't have it so I am just wondering if someone has the same thing like me. Thanks
