How to make my 24" monitor the default?

Ok, I have two Dell monitors. One is a 2407WFP and the other a 1704FPT.

My video card is a 7900GT by eVGA and I am using the ForceWare drivers for the card. When I right click on the desktop and check the properties, it shows that my 1704FPT (17" is the default monitor). I've tried uninstalling the 1704FPT in the device manager, uninstalling its driver and color profile (or ICM file). No matter what I do, I can't get the 2407WFP to be the default monitor. This is affecting some games and programs that I run. When I go into those programs' options to change resolution, it only shows the resolutions available to the 1704FPT. If I could get the 2407WFP to be the default monitor, those programs would show the resolutions available for the 2407WFP.

Anyone know how I can get windows to make the 2407WFP the default monitor?

I tried that already. When I did that, the main desktop went to the 1704FPT. Checked the DVI ports on my video card and the 2407WFP was on the DVI port labeled #1 the first time.

What if you only connect your 24 incher and boot up. Then once you are booted up into windows hook up the other monitor?

UltraMon wiill do that and solve problems you don't even know you have yet.
Like:
Where should the Taskbar go and what should it show?
How do I get my icons back after I change resolutions?
Why can't I move a maximized window to the other monitor?

I've been using UltraMon for awhile now. This problem came up recently (when I got the 2407 and replaced my CRT with it).

What happens if you boot up with only the 24" connected? Obviously your desktop will be on it, if you go to properties it should be shown as your main one. Then plug in the other monitor and check the extend my desktop to it. Have you tried this? Does it switch the other monitor to the default? If that doesn't work how about fully uninstalling the drivers for the vid card and the hook up the 24" and reinstall them, then hook up the 17".

I've tried booting up with just the 2407. When I do that, going into the advanced properties on the desktop doesn't show any dual screen options. When I hook up the second monitor, it works just like normal. I can click on the extend my desktop to this monitor box and apply. I have to do this every time I restart though.

I've tried uninstalling the ForceWare drivers and installing the latest one. Same problem. I may need to wipe my hard drive and reinstall windows.

Arg, yeah that is a weird issue, it could probrably be fixed but it might mean another 40 hours or research vs 4 hours to wipe and reinstall put data back etc I don't have an nvidia card but is there any advanced settings that deal with monitors that might be switched around? Has this always been an issue or at one time did the 24" work as the default? I'm guessing that it has always been an issue but if not maybe a windows system restore? :)

Yeah, in the ForceWare "control panel" there's a drop down menu that lets you choose which monitor you want as primary. I've tried setting the 2407 as the primary with that, but Windows still shows the 1704fpt as the default. No worries, I'll wipe as soon as I can. Hopefully that fixes it.
